Size: Up to 16mm high; 6mm broad Shape: Moderately tall shell with the last whorl making up about two thirds of the total shell height. Has a short but wide siphonal canal and a small anal siphon. Not turreted in profile. Colour: Often reddish brown in whole or part, though dead shells are often pale. Sculpture: 13-15 narrow costae on the last three whorls with spiral ridges present between these. Animal: Flesh is white with grey sometimes bluish.
Ecology and behaviour
Lives on soft bottoms from extreme low water to 70m.
Distribution and status
Found all around the British Isles but not common.
