Monacha cantiana (Montagu 1803)
Description: 11 - 14 x 16 - 20 mm. Shell globular, slightly depressed, rather thin and semi-transparent, with 5½ - 6 convex whorls in a low conical spire, with a well-rounded periphery. Umbilicus small (one-seventh to one-ninth breadth of shell), slightly obscured by the reflected columellar lip. Mouth nearly circular, with a white internal rib. Shell creamy-white, often darkening to reddish-brown near the mouth, and sometimes with rather diffuse, wide, reddish spiral bands most noticeable near the mouth. Immature specimens are usually more transparent and lack the internal rib around the mouth.
Habitat: Roadside verges, hedges, waste ground and scrub, occasionally dunes. Not in woods.
