Trivia arctica with mantle fully expanded. Dark marks near the yellow edges of the mantle should not be confused with the dark marks found on the dorsum of the shell of T. monacha.

Trivia arctica with mantle half retracted. Dark marks frequent on edge of mantle but never on the shell. Usually less common live on shore than T. monacha, but 100+ seen on a shore on Menai Strait, Wales August 2010.

Comparison of usual adult sizes of L. latens (10mm, on left ) and L. perspicua (20mm, on right) at same scale. L. latens often holds its tentacles at a more obtuse angle to each other than L. perspicua.

Lamellaria latens.White markings with grey discs and fine sepia spots of this specimen resemble its compound ascidian prey, such as Trididemnum, with exhalent openings and small inhalent pores. Length 10mm. In Laminaria holdfast, LWS, Menai Strait, Wales.
