Hydrobia ulvae aperture and operculum. Arrow indicates pointed adapical end of aperture. From salting pool, salinity 22.7p.p.t., Aust, Severn Estuary. Most specimens from this site with sulphide-rich anaerobic mud had extensive black encrustation.
