Some populations of Achatina fulica in Tanzania consist of snails with shells that are either streaked (hamillei) or unstreaked (rodatzi). The segregations of the two forms in the progeny of fourteen matings suggest that the presence of streaks is determined by a gene dominant to one for their absence. This shell colour variation is best interpreted as an example of genetic polymorphism.
