Saturday 7th November 2026 (10:00-17:00)
Sunday 8th November 2026 (10:00-13:00)
Leeds City Museum
Members and guests are invited to take part in a special meeting to celebrate 150 years since our Society was born in Leeds in 1876.
The weekend will include a variety of talks, exhibits and other activities on the Society’s past, present and future, plus chances to socialise and have fun. Be prepared to have fun and to dress up – there will be a group photograph, and a prize for wearing the best conchological garment!
Speakers include Brett Westwood (BBC Radio 4), Angus Davison (Cuban Polymita snails and polymorphism), Graham Oliver (barcoding Red Sea marine molluscs) and Louise Lavictoire (Freshwater Pearl Mussels over the last 150 years). Powerpoint talks (20 minutes) by members are welcome.
If you wish to offer a talk, please contact Ben Rowson (president@conchsoc.org) or Matt Law (programme@conchsoc.org) by 31st August 2026.
Due to the size of the venue, spaces at the event are limited to 70 each day. On the Saturday lunch will be provided by the Herbarium Café at the Museum.
There will also be an evening meal at Browns, near the Museum, on the Saturday. The evening meal is strictly limited to 40 spaces, so book early to avoid disappointment. A £10 non-refundable deposit is required for the evening meal.
It is ESSENTIAL to book your attendance at the event using Eventbrite, at the link below. This will also allow you to register exhibits or posters, and notify us of dietary requirements.
Please note that the meeting will begin at 10:00 each day, although the main Museum is not open until 11:00 on weekends.
We plan to allow online attendance by streaming the presentations via Zoom. A link will be sent to members by email. We have not yet confirmed whether recordings will be made available. Check the Society’s website for updates.
