Guest speaker: John Whicher, 'Sowerby's Mineral Conchology. Tales of the unexpected.'
James Sowerby's Mineral Conchology of Great Britain, a comprehensive catalogue of invertebrate fossils, was published over a 34-year time-span starting in 1812. The finished work contains 650 coloured plates distributed over 7 volumes. John Whicher will revisit the subsequent history of several species he described with outcomes he would probably not have expected.

The following is a message from the President of the Society, Tom Walker:

We are looking forward to our 'live' AGM at the Natural History Museum at 2.00pm on Saturday 9 April. It seems that the NHM is not going to relax its need for pre-booking for entry, but I hope that this will not put off members attending in person.

If you do plan to come, there are three entry options.
(1): You can pre-book entry using the NHM website.
(2): Let me know in advance of your intention to attend, and I will then pass your name to the Security team at the Staff/Visitor entrance (next the the public entrance in Exhibition Road) who will admit you directly.
(3): Someone will be at the Staff/Visitor entrance at 1.40pm to facilitate entrance for anyone not using options (1) or (2).

If you wish to avail yourself of option (2) It is essential that you contact me on 'president@conchsoc.org' or phone/text me (preferably text) on 07488-231-574 as soon as possible, and by Thursday 7 April at the latest.

If you wish to attend in person there is no need to let Catherine Jagger at CIRCA, our membership department, know in advance. If you wish to join us on Zoom please contact Catherine beforehand on shellmember@gmail.com and you will be sent the Zoom joining link.
