Abstract: "Until very recently, we had only a few 19th century records of fossil snails on the Deserta Islands (Madeira). Now we have many new records from the Holocene and late Pleistocene. These faunas are much richer than those found today, including many new species no longer with us. While there have been many extinctions, local workers have re-discovered a number of “Lazarus”species, perhaps recovering after successful efforts at habitat recovery. I will report on work in progress."
