Saturday 12 July 2014: CS Field Meeting (non-marine), Slugs and snails of the Moss Valley Woods, Sheffield, West Yorks.

Type
Field meeting

Joint meeting with the Sorby Natural History Society, and a contribution to the Sheffield Bioblitz.

I reported on the fauna of these woods in Mollusc World (number 14, July 2007). This is a rich, wet clough woodland with remains of early industrial workings. 38 species are known, and it is the only site within Sheffield city limits in which Merdigera obscura and Clausilia bidentata are recorded. I am hoping we can push the total to more than 40!

Meet at 10.30 am by the Bridge Inn at Ford (Grid ref SK 402 803), where there is a public car park near that of the inn. The woods are about 1 km away along a good path. Bring lunch, and be dressed for possible rain and mud.
