This is the molluscan contribution to the 2013 Sheffield BioBlitz!   Little Matlock Wood, last surveyed 11 years ago, is a fragment of ancient woodland managed for recreation for two centuries. It is the richest locality for land molluscs within the city (34 species in 2002), including Limax cinereoniger and Arion owenii

Meet in the car park of the old Robin Hood Inn (now a private house) at Grid Ref SK309895 at 10.30 AM. The old pub car park is not available, but there is space for 7-8 cars just opposite the front of the house, and occasional spaces on the lane leading to it.  From Malin Bridge, take the B 6067 (Stannington Road), turn right into Wood Lane, then immediately right again into Grove Road. Turn right off this into Greaves Road. This ends, as a tarmac road, at the Robin Hood Inn. Slopes in Little Matlock Wood are steep. Bring good footwear, and warm and waterproof clothing, and your usual accessories (clipboards, poly bag, pencil). Bring a packed lunch if you are able to stay till the deadline of 15.00 hrs. Let’s beat the 2002 total!
