Identifying British freshwater snails: Brackish water Hydrobiidae

FAMILY: HYDROBIIDAE associated with brackish-water

The shells illustrated here lack their opercula.

If the shell breadth is less than half the height AND the body whorl is less than 70% of the height AND the umbilicus is a mere chink or entirely closed, PLEASE CONTINUE ON THIS PAGE.

If your specimen does NOT fit the above criteria, please go back to "Brackish water Rissoacea" to try again.

Is the shell solid, comprised of 6-7 whorls which are nearly flat-sided, the last having a slight keel, and a mouth aperture which is slightly angulated, like this one ?

Or is the shell more delicate, with tumid whorls like one of these ?
