This paper discusses the Tornatinidae and Retusidae of the Arabian Gulf. Lectotypes of Tornatina persiana Smith and ‘Tornatinainconspicua H. Adams are selected and described. The generic positions of Tornatina persiana and T. involuta (Nevill and Nevill) are established for the first time and a new species, Retusa tarutana, is described. This latter is similar in shell shape to R. obtusata (Montagu), but is smaller, the gizzard plates are more pointed and the apical whorls are heterostrophic.
