The analysis of shell samples from archaeological sites in Timor, Indonesia, provides evidence for the long exploitation of Mollusca. Molluscs were collected from the nearby fringing reef and species from estuarine and terrestrial habitats were also recorded. There is some evidence that exploitation of the molluscs may have caused changes in the structure of the local populations, particularly affecting abundance and size range.
