The present paper reports the occurrence of the gastropod Callumbonella suturalis (Philippi, 1836) on the south of Portugal and confirms the distribution of this species on the south Atlantic coasts of Europe. In spite of being fairly common off the NW coast of Africa and in the western Mediterranean Sea, the species seems to be rare in Europe, with very scarce records, particularly in the recent times. It is a deep-water species, the known bathymetric distribution ranging from 160 to 2324 m., occurring on mud, fine sand, silt and clay silt bottoms.
