Conchology-uk is the official discussion group for members of the Society. Members and any others with an interest in British marine, terrestrial and aquatic mollusca and their shells are most welcome to join. The more members there are, the more lively the discussion is likely to become, so if you have access to the internet, please consider joining. We welcome contributions on molluscan topics from beginners and experts alike.
Joining conchology-uk
Explaining the procedure makes it sound more complicated than it actually is, but some members have requested the information which follows.
Before joining the group, you will need a Yahoo ID.
If you have received an email invitation to join the group, click on the link to Join the group.
Otherwise, go to http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/conchology-uk/ or by clicking on the Yahoo logo above.
Click on "Join this group!"
If you do not already have a Yahoo ID, click on "Sign up".
On the next screen, at "I prefer content from" select "Yahoo! United Kingdom" and wait for the page to reload itself.
Don't forget the Yahoo ID and password that you choose, as you will need these to access the group web pages, files and images.
Once you have registered, you should be taken automatically to a form to join the group (If you are not taken automatically to this, go to http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/conchology-uk/ again, sign in again with your Yahoo ID and password if requested, then click on "Join this group!")
Note that you can add a different email address for messages to be posted to if you wish.
On the next screen, uncheck the installation of the Yahoo! toolbar unless you really want it.
Unless you joined via an invitation, there will be a slight delay to your acceptance as a member since each application has to be verified as a deterrent against spammers.
At the group site we have an archive of all messages, and a Files section, where members can post images or other material.
Please note that attachments to emails are not allowed, but images for identification or interest may be loaded into the group web pages. These should be loaded into the Files section and not the Photos section. Full instructions on how to post images can be found at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/conchology-uk/files/0-info/
There sometimes seems to be a problem with clicking on links in emails to go to images on the Yahoo site, so it is often best to go to the site at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/conchology-uk/, log on and navigate from there to the images in the Files section
