The response to the Covid-19 virus is having a significant impact upon our lives and is likely to do so for the remainder of 2020, if not beyond.
The Conchological Society is taking this threat seriously with the utmost concern for the wellbeing of its members. This is, perhaps, especially relevant to the field meetings programme, a particularly important and much enjoyed part of the Society’s annual agenda.
Government restrictions seek to reduce social contact and unnecessary travel. In considering its position, the Society needs to not only think about field meeting leaders and participants (potentially travelling long distances to attend), but also other people who might, inadvertently, be affected by a meeting taking place.
The Society has decided to clarify its position and it is with extreme regret that all 2020 field meetings are cancelled until further notice. Although it is extremely unlikely that we will soon return to a period of unrestricted travel and social contact, we will, nevertheless, continue to regularly monitor this situation in case it is possible to resurrect some meetings later in the year. Please continue to look at the Society web pages for ongoing updates.
Although we apologise for any disappointment caused, the Conchological Society’s top priority is always the safety of both its members and anyone else affected by Society activities.
